Raw, turbulent and unpolished - that is the music created by the Amsterdam based William Barrett Band. The steamy focus of attention where four musicians, set up in a circle, who may have been short of breath sometimes, yet were never short of splendor. They go by Mo van der Does, Gijs Idema, Wouter Kühne and – bandleader – William Barrett.
Barrett, arguably Amsterdam’s favorite guest (musician), never lacked ideas. With his unique poetic jazz project Vondelier, he already showcased his competency as a composer, as well as his off-trail approach. He now explores a sound that is more emotionally immediate, with his upcoming album Live in Amsterdam. Side by side with some of the most productive musicians in Dutch jazz, the 31-year-old appears more confident than ever before. The compositions written by Barrett serve as a gateway to freedom through improvisation, interplay and fuses with the audience.
